Once a month, Robert Battle, a.k.a. B the Big Man, attends a rehearsal at The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in Manhattan. Battle joined Fox & Friends to talk about his new role at the acclaimed New York City dance company.
Battle explains that he was approached by founding artistic director Robert Battle, Sr. The family was looking for his (Battle’s) guidance. He explained that although he feels like he has to carry the mantle himself, he also knows that he may not be able to.
Battle says that when he finishes rehearsal, he walks to the t.v. studio and takes a seat by Tony Award winner Cassandra Wilson and former principal dancer Kyle Abraham. The seasoned, accomplished dancers keep him grounded and inspired.
Battle says that everyone at the Alvin Ailey foundation is in this “for the right reasons. It’s about a community of movement, which is a creative force; it’s about freedom of expression; it’s about giving back and it’s about doing better and empowering the body in a way that goes deeper than being the center of attention, being the most prized entity of a community and then taking the art to the masses.”
